Dell KACE Announces New Appliance for Medium Sized Businesses

Finding a solution that fits a mid-sized organization can be a bit reminiscent of Goldilocks and the Three Bears – “this one is too big” or “too small.” But Dell KACE’s new series of comprehensive, easy-to-use and affordable systems management appliances targeted toward medium-sized businesses may be “just right.” The K Series Advanced is the newest line of appliances to join KACE’s Family of Appliances.

Mid-sized organizations have traditionally been an underserved market with a unique set of pain points when it comes to managing its systems. Most industry offerings fall under two categories: low cost limited functionality ones that serve small businesses, and higher cost advanced functionality ones that serve enterprises. Medium sized organizations face the challenge of having to manage scale and to expand with limited budgets. They need enterprise level capabilities at affordable prices and this has largely been unaddressed. Not anymore.

Dell KACE’s K Series Advanced appliances offer enterprise capabilities at “pay-as-you-grow” affordable pricing. The new appliance addresses a key pain point of organizations in the mid-market segment – the frequent need to upgrade IT infrastructure to match their growing scale. Time and budget constraints often keep them from upgrading since most IT system upgrades require rip and replace of older systems. This severely limits their ability to grow and introduces inefficiencies that result from using obsolete IT systems. With the new appliance growing organizations can realize more powerful system management capabilities in terms of the ability to image more systems, inventory more frequently, higher volumes of patching and software distribution and more reliability in general — all at affordable node-based pricing. They enable rapidly expanding businesses to accelerate along their growth path without having to constantly upgrade or to compromise on their systems management quality of service.

With the launch of the new line of appliances KACE now offers 3 lines of appliances within the K-Series — the K1100/K2100 for organizations with up to 1000 end points, the K1100-ADV/K2100-ADV for medium sized businesses with 1000 to 3500 endpoints and the K1200/K2200 to manage up to 20,000 clients. The K1100/K2100 and K1100-ADV/K2100-ADV lines are priced per node and the K1200/K2100 line is priced per appliance.

Join us for a 1 hour webinar on System Management Basics for Organizations of All Sizes on September 29th at 10am P.S.T and learn how you can address your system management needs.

Dell KACE System Management Appliance: Now Protecting Federal and Government Agencies!

American flag and a lock and keyThe Dell KACE K1000 System Management Appliance recently received National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST) certification for its FDCC Scanner. The K1000 provides endpoint security solutions that allow organizations to discover, assess, proactively manage, get alerted to, and remediate security vulnerabilities thereby protecting their systems from cyber-attacks and other security breaches. With the FDCC Scanner certification by NIST, the Dell KACE System Management Appliances can now serve federal agencies by offering them comprehensive, easy-to-use and affordable system management capabilities that also enable them to implement FDCC compliance.

Government agencies are in the top 3 most attacked segments for data breach attacks constituting around 17% of all data breaches in the first half of 2010*. In 2010 an average of 1.8 billion attacks per month were targeted at the Congress and other government agencies**. Attacks had risen exponentially from a mere 8 million a month, back in 2008 and the seriousness of the threat lies not merely with the numbers but also with the increasing sophistication of these attacks. A major chunk of the attacks target Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, which may not have the latest security patches.

One of the many measures put in place to protect federal agencies from security attacks is the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) specification that standardizes security configuration for desktop computers. U.S government agencies are required to be FDCC compliant and an FDCC Scanner helps them achieve it.

FDCC compliance reduces the risk of security breaches by closing known gaps that are used by hackers to get access to a system. However it also places extra burden on the already over-worked IT administrators who have to manage the security configurations in addition to performing the day-to-day system management activities. The K1000 offers the perfect solution that saves time for system administrators by automating routine IT chores through an out of the box appliance that accomplishes complex and repetitive tasks with a few clicks while enabling them to implement FDCC Compliance.

The KACE solution allows users to schedule, run and report on desktop security configurations. The appliance also provides an intuitive interface that enables users to check how systems performed against the standard security checklists and cross link the systems with other features like asset management, inventory, patching and software distribution, to easily diagnose and remediate issues. Find out more about the K1000′s security audit and enforcement features.

Consumerization of IT in the Work Environment

5 popular smartphones741 IT Managers tell us what they really think about all those personal devices in the workplace.

The Consumerization of IT seemed at first to be a sort of fad or trend.  But the numbers of personal devices in the last couple of years have skyrocketed and everyone seems to agree this is one trend that won’t be going away or receding anytime soon.

We decided to ask our customers what they really think about this phenomenon.  741 customers and site visitors graciously completed the survey, sharing their opinions about many aspects of this onslaught of personal devices in the workplace and the related challenges of managing these devices.  These survey participants revealed their concerns, their estimates about the size of the problem and their plans—or lack of plans—to harness this growing challenge.

We think every IT manager would like to hear what their peers are doing—and what they think their employees are doing with their personal laptops, tablets and phones —attend our Webinar presentation, “The Consumerization of IT -IT Managers Talk Prevalence, Plans and Pitfalls“; Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10 am PT.
