Dell KACE System Management Appliance: Now Protecting Federal and Government Agencies!

American flag and a lock and keyThe Dell KACE K1000 System Management Appliance recently received National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST) certification for its FDCC Scanner. The K1000 provides endpoint security solutions that allow organizations to discover, assess, proactively manage, get alerted to, and remediate security vulnerabilities thereby protecting their systems from cyber-attacks and other security breaches. With the FDCC Scanner certification by NIST, the Dell KACE System Management Appliances can now serve federal agencies by offering them comprehensive, easy-to-use and affordable system management capabilities that also enable them to implement FDCC compliance.

Government agencies are in the top 3 most attacked segments for data breach attacks constituting around 17% of all data breaches in the first half of 2010*. In 2010 an average of 1.8 billion attacks per month were targeted at the Congress and other government agencies**. Attacks had risen exponentially from a mere 8 million a month, back in 2008 and the seriousness of the threat lies not merely with the numbers but also with the increasing sophistication of these attacks. A major chunk of the attacks target Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, which may not have the latest security patches.

One of the many measures put in place to protect federal agencies from security attacks is the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) specification that standardizes security configuration for desktop computers. U.S government agencies are required to be FDCC compliant and an FDCC Scanner helps them achieve it.

FDCC compliance reduces the risk of security breaches by closing known gaps that are used by hackers to get access to a system. However it also places extra burden on the already over-worked IT administrators who have to manage the security configurations in addition to performing the day-to-day system management activities. The K1000 offers the perfect solution that saves time for system administrators by automating routine IT chores through an out of the box appliance that accomplishes complex and repetitive tasks with a few clicks while enabling them to implement FDCC Compliance.

The KACE solution allows users to schedule, run and report on desktop security configurations. The appliance also provides an intuitive interface that enables users to check how systems performed against the standard security checklists and cross link the systems with other features like asset management, inventory, patching and software distribution, to easily diagnose and remediate issues.
