Upgrading a computer or migrating to a new operating system should be a positive experience, not one resulting in end-user downtime due to endless file backups, file transfers and setting reconfigurations. With K2000 user state migration tool, you can deploy user-specific files and settings along with an operating system and applications, reducing the risk of losing critical information.
What is the User State Migration Tool (USMT)? USMT is a utility tool created by Microsoft to make it easier to migrate user files and settings during large deployments of new operating systems such as Windows 7. USMT captures desktop and application settings as well user accounts and profiles and migrates them to the new Windows Installation. Dell KACE has leveraged this tool within the K2000. There are two ways to capture “user states” using USMT within the K2000.
Offline Scan- Enables “Scan State” to run inside a WindowsPE operating system capturing profiles, application settings, Data and registry keys to be deployed using a post-install task in your scripted installations prior to formatting the source system.
Online Scan – Allows you to scan a PC prior to deploying the new operating system and put user profiles that have been captured, using a scan, on target computers by assigning the “Deploy User State Post Install Task” to your scripted install or System Image.
